SpiceJet plane hits Akasa Air aircraft at Delhi airport, no injuries reported

New Delhi: A mid-day incident at Indira Gandhi International Airport saw a SpiceJet aircraft collide with a parked Akasa Air plane in the parking area.

Both aircraft sustained damage, but all passengers and crew members were reported safe.

According to SpiceJet, the right wing of its aircraft was damaged, while Akasa Air’s plane also suffered impact to its wing/fan area.

Following the incident, the SpiceJet aircraft has been grounded in Delhi and will not be used for further operations until cleared.

Data from FlightRadar24 indicates the collision occurred when the SpiceJet aircraft, arriving from Leh, was taxiing towards the gate while the Akasa Air plane was being pushed back for a Hyderabad-bound flight.

Akasa Air said its aircraft was stationary when it was hit by another airline’s plane. As a result, flight QP 1406 to Hyderabad had to return to the parking bay.

All passengers and crew were safely deboarded, and the airline is making alternative arrangements to send passengers to Hyderabad at the earliest.
