Phagwara: A theft case has been registered against a woman home guard employee deployed at the official residence of a senior police officer in Phagwara after cash, jewellery and foreign currency were reported missing from the house.
According to police, the complaint was filed by Santosh Kumari, mother of Kapurthala SP Madhavi Sharma. She stated that the accused, identified as Manjit Kaur, had been posted at the residence and worked there daily from 9 am to 5 pm.
The complainant said the home guard employee had been working at the house for a long period, which had earned her the family’s trust. However, during a recent check of a suitcase, Santosh Kumari allegedly found that ₹20,000 in cash, four gold chains, three rings, a pair of earrings, two diamond pendants and 200 Canadian dollars were missing.
She further alleged that when questioned about the missing valuables, Manjit Kaur failed to provide a satisfactory explanation, leading the family to suspect her involvement in the theft.
Following the complaint, Phagwara police registered an FIR against the accused and launched an investigation into the matter.
DSP Palwinder Singh confirmed that a case has been registered and said further legal action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
