Paris: US President Donald Trump is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 17 on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in France, marking their first face-to-face meeting since talks held in Washington in February last year.
President Trump is expected to depart for France on Monday to attend the summit, where he is also slated to hold bilateral meetings with the leaders of Egypt, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and France.
The Modi-Trump meeting is expected to focus on strengthening India-US ties, with trade issues likely to feature prominently in the discussions. Officials and analysts expect both sides to explore ways to address ongoing tariff-related concerns and enhance economic cooperation.
The two leaders are also expected to discuss security cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region, defence partnerships, counter-terrorism efforts, resilient global supply chains and collaboration in emerging technologies.
Prime Minister Modi has embarked on a week-long visit to France and Slovakia, during which he will participate in the G7 Summit and engage with several world leaders on bilateral and global issues.
India’s role at the G7 Summit
Although India is not a permanent member of the G7, it has once again been invited to participate in the summit in recognition of its growing global influence and economic significance.
During the summit, Modi is expected to present India’s position on key global issues, including climate change, digital transformation, sustainable development and economic growth.
The Prime Minister’s visit to Slovakia is also expected to focus on expanding India’s trade, investment and strategic ties with Central European nations.
The week-long tour is being viewed as an important diplomatic engagement for India as it seeks to deepen international partnerships and strengthen its role in shaping global policy discussions.
