Special Intensive Revision of Electoral Rolls in Patiala District to be Conducted in a Transparent Manner: Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal

Says , BLOs will visit households from June 25 to July 24, 2026 to get forms filled under the Special Intensive Revision

Patiala News (May 16): District Election Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner Patiala Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal informed that as per the notification issued by the Election Commission of India regarding the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Punjab, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will conduct door-to-door visits in Patiala district from June 25, 2026 to July 24, 2026 for filling forms under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR).

The Deputy Commissioner said here today that as per the directions received from Chief Electoral Officer Punjab, Ms. Anindita Mitra, the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Patiala district will be carried out in a completely transparent manner. He added that the entire election machinery has been deployed for this task, including 1786 BLOs, 185 Supervisors, 8 Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and 16 Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs).

Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal said that each BLO has been assigned an average of only 300 households and 1200 voters for the SIR exercise. He added that all preparations related to conducting the SIR in the district have been completed as per the directions of the Chief Electoral Officer Punjab.

The Deputy Commissioner further informed that training of BLOs and other preparatory work related to SIR will be carried out from June 15, 2026 to June 24, 2026. He said that the objective is to ensure inclusion of every eligible citizen in the electoral rolls and exclusion of ineligible persons.

The District Election Officer said that possessing duplicate votes is an offence under the Constitution of India, punishable with imprisonment of up to one year. He informed that all voters in the district will have to fill forms under the SIR exercise. He further stated that under the pre-SIR mapping carried out in Patiala, there are 15,21,133 voters, out of which mapping of 12,39,790 voters has already been completed, which constitutes 81.50 percent of the total voters. He added that January 1, 2003 has been fixed as the qualifying date for the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.

Providing more details regarding the SIR exercise, Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal said that the rationalisation of polling stations will be completed by July 24, 2026 and the draft electoral rolls will be published on July 31, 2026. Claims and objections regarding electoral rolls can be submitted from July 31, 2026 to August 30, 2026. Disposal of claims and objections will be completed from July 31, 2026 to September 28, 2026. He added that the final electoral rolls will be published on October 1, 2026.

The District Election Officer appealed to all voters of the district to extend full cooperation to the BLOs during the Special Intensive Revision being conducted by the Election Commission of India. He also informed that for the convenience of voters, electoral rolls as on the qualifying date of January 1, 2003 have been linked with the current electoral rolls, so that voters do not face any difficulty in locating older electoral records.

Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal further informed that BLOs will visit households to get the SIR forms filled and will contact voters up to three times by visiting their homes again for collection of the forms. He clarified that during the SIR exercise, Aadhaar Card will be accepted only as a source of identity and not as proof of eligibility.

The Deputy Commissioner appealed to all political parties in Punjab to appoint their Booth Level Agents so that the exercise can be completed smoothly. He added that the Office of the District Election Officer, Patiala will involve political parties at every stage of the Special Intensive Revision process.
