Jalandhar News: Two people were injured after a property dispute turned violent at Maqsudan’s wholesale vegetable market in Jalandhar on Tuesday evening.
According to police, local BJP mediator and Arhatiya Association head Mukesh Kumar “Monu” Puri was shot in both feet during a meeting held to settle a shop ownership dispute with a neighbour. Another man, identified as Karam, also suffered gunshot injuries.
The incident took place around 5:30 PM when supporters from both sides gathered at the market. During an argument, the situation suddenly turned violent and firing took place, creating panic in the area. CCTV footage showed people running for safety after gunshots were fired.
Police Commissioner Dhanpreet Kaur confirmed the incident and said police are examining CCTV footage to identify who opened fire. Former MLA Sheetal Angural said Monu Puri is out of danger and undergoing treatment in hospital.
Heavy police force was deployed at the market after the incident, and the area remained tense till late evening.
