CBSE declares Class 10 second board exam results, overall pass percentage rises to 96.78%

New Delhi: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has declared the results of the Class 10 second board examination for 2026, with the overall pass percentage rising to 96.78% after combining the results of both the main and second board exams.

The overall pass percentage in the first board examination, announced earlier this year, stood at 93.70%.

According to CBSE, 6,64,027 students had registered for the second board examination, while 6,63,777 appeared for the tests.

Among them, 5,13,955 students took the second examination to improve their marks from the main board exams. Of these, 3,08,095 students, or 59.95%, succeeded in improving their scores.

A total of 1,49,822 students appeared in the compartment examination, with 52.40% clearing the exam.

The two-board examination system was introduced for the first time under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 to provide students with an opportunity to improve their performance. Under the system, the higher score obtained in either of the two examinations is considered for the final marksheet. While appearing in the main board examination is mandatory, the second examination is optional.

The main Class 10 board examinations were conducted from February 17 to March 11, while the second board examinations were held between May 15 and May 21.

CBSE said marksheets and passing certificates will be distributed through respective schools. Private candidates will receive their digital documents through DigiLocker, while printed copies will be sent to their registered addresses. Private candidates in Delhi East and Delhi West can also collect their documents from their designated examination centres.
