Chandigarh: Voting for student council elections at colleges affiliated with Panjab University in Chandigarh concluded on Monday, with results now beginning to be announced.
A total of 39,386 students across eight colleges were eligible to vote. Student organisation panels and independent candidates contested various posts.
At DAV College, Sector 10, 7,521 students were eligible to vote, including 4,570 boys and 2,951 girls. Elections were held for posts including president, vice-president, general secretary and joint secretary.
PG Government College, Sector 11, had 5,389 eligible voters, comprising 2,592 boys and 2,797 girls.
The highest number of voters, 10,513, was recorded at GGDSD College, Sector 32, including 6,046 boys and 4,467 girls. Multiple alliance panels contested the elections, along with an independent candidate for president.
At Guru Gobind Singh College, Sector 26, 5,147 students were eligible to vote, with the main contest between two panels and an independent candidate also contesting for president.
Elections were also held for various posts at PG Government College for Girls, Sector 11, while Dev Samaj College, Sector 45, held polling only for the vice-president and joint secretary posts.
At PG Government College, Sector 46, the contest was limited to the secretary’s post.
Meanwhile, candidates were elected unopposed at MCM DAV College, Sector 36; Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector 26; and Government College of Commerce and Business Administration, Sector 50. Consequently, no polling was held at these institutions.
