Charges framed against two more accused in Kamal Kaur Bhabhi murder case

Bathinda: A Bathinda court on Monday framed charges against Amritpal Singh Mehro(n) and Ranjit Singh in connection with the murder of social media influencer Kanchan Kumari, popularly known as Kamal Kaur Bhabhi.

The court has fixed September 22 for the next hearing. Charges had earlier been framed against co-accused Jaspreet Singh and Nimratjit Singh in the case.

Kamal Kaur, 36, a resident of Ludhiana, was found dead on the night of June 11 last year inside the rear seat of a car parked outside Adesh University at Bhucho Kalan along the Bathinda-Chandigarh highway. Her badly decomposed body was recovered after local residents reported a foul smell from the vehicle.

Police have alleged that she was strangled to death.

Police allege conspiracy over social media content

Investigators have alleged that Amritpal, who knew Kamal Kaur, had objected to some of her social media content and allegedly planned to “teach her a lesson” with the help of his associates.

According to the police investigation, Kamal Kaur was allegedly brought to Bathinda on the pretext of participating in a promotional video event.

Amritpal, a resident of Mehro(n) village in Moga district, has been described by investigators as the alleged main conspirator. Police said he fled to the UAE following the incident. He was declared a proclaimed offender in February this year and was subsequently deported from the UAE and brought back to India on April 10.

He has remained in judicial custody since then.

Advocate Manpreet Singh Brar, representing Amritpal Singh and Ranjit Singh, confirmed that charges were framed against both accused on Monday.
