Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Wednesday met Governor Gulab Chand Kataria and raised the issue of parole for Jagtar Singh Hawara.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Mann said Hawara’s mother had been unwell for a long time and that he should be granted 10 days’ parole on humanitarian grounds.
Mann said he had also sent a written request to the Governor seeking parole for Hawara. He added that assurances had been given that there would be no law-and-order concerns during the parole period.
According to the Chief Minister, the matter will now require approval from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, following which further action can be taken.
Mann had earlier written to the Governor recommending 10 days of parole for Hawara, citing the deteriorating health of his elderly mother.
