New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal alleged that Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar was running the Election Commission single-handedly and issuing orders without the approval of the other two Election Commissioners.
Kejriwal said the Election Commission comprises the Chief Election Commissioner and two Election Commissioners, who take decisions either by consensus or majority. He claimed the two Election Commissioners had repeatedly written to the CEC alleging that orders were being issued without the approval of the Commission.
He alleged that orders issued without the Commission’s approval were “illegal” and claimed that the entire Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process was illegal. He demanded that the SIR exercise be cancelled immediately.
Kejriwal also claimed that only the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) of a particular area has the authority to add or delete votes. According to him, both Election Commissioners had alleged that access to the website had been restricted for EROs, effectively limiting their authority.
He further alleged that people in Delhi had access to voter lists across the country and could add or remove names at will.
Kejriwal demanded that all changes made to voter lists over the past three years be rejected and that the voter list from three years ago be restored.
He also demanded the arrest of Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
