Mohali court acquits three in 1.045-kg heroin case over contradictory witness statements

Mohali: A special court in Mohali has acquitted three accused in an NDPS Act case involving the alleged possession of 1.045 kg of heroin, citing contradictions in the statements of 10 government witnesses, including DSP Gursher Singh Sandhu.

The court found that the police officials had failed to follow mandatory procedures required for registering a case under the NDPS Act.

According to the case, Phase 1 police arrested Sirsa residents Sachin Kumar and Jasbir Kaur from the Phase 7 Industrial Area on June 4, 2020, allegedly recovering 500 grams of heroin from each of them.

During their interrogation, police arrested Raghbir Singh, a resident of Kharar. Police claimed to have recovered 45 grams of narcotic substance from him the following day.

However, all three accused claimed that they had been picked up by police personnel from their respective homes.

The court’s decision came after finding inconsistencies in the prosecution evidence and noting the alleged failure to comply with the mandatory procedure under the NDPS Act.
