Punjab women’s panel takes suo motu notice of Maluka’s controversial remarks

Chandigarh: The Punjab State Commission for Women has taken suo motu notice of alleged controversial remarks made by former cabinet minister and senior Shiromani Akali Dal leader Sikander Singh Maluka about the state government’s Mukhyamantri Mawan Dhiyan Satikar Yojana.

Commission chairperson Raj Lali Gill shared a summons issued to Maluka in a social media post. The commission acted after a video surfaced showing Maluka speaking to a journalist from a private news channel about the government’s scheme.

The summons stated that the commission had received information about a video in which Maluka allegedly used objectionable, insulting and inappropriate language towards women.

It said such language could hurt women’s dignity and social standing, promote disrespectful attitudes towards them and undermine the values of respect and equality in society.

The commission has initiated proceedings over the alleged remarks.
