Sidhu Moose Wala’s father urges Jhotta’s family to raise gangster issue with Amit Shah

Mansa: Balkaur Singh, father of slain Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala, on Tuesday joined the protest in Mansa over the killing of anti-drug activist Parvinder Singh Jhotta and urged his father, Bhim Singh, to raise the issue of gangsters with Union home minister Amit Shah during his visit to the district.

Balkaur Singh, who recently returned from abroad after postponing the remaining shows of his son’s hologram tour, said politicians often politicised sensitive issues instead of addressing them. He urged Bhim Singh to ask Shah why gangsters lodged in Gujarat’s Sabarmati jail were not being produced before courts for hearings. He also referred to a gangster from Gurdaspur without naming him.

Questioning Punjab’s law and order situation, Balkaur Singh said he welcomed Shah’s visit to meet families affected by such incidents. He alleged that people were treated merely as “voting machines” and that politicians approached them mainly during elections.

Referring to his own interactions with Shah, Balkaur Singh claimed that the home minister had once offered him a ticket to contest the Sangrur Lok Sabha by-election.

He also questioned the delay in the investigation into Jhotta’s killing, saying chief minister Bhagwant Mann had announced a CBI probe into the case on Tuesday. Balkaur Singh asked why the government had taken a week to announce the decision.

Jhotta’s killing has triggered protests across Punjab, with his family and supporters demanding an impartial investigation and action against those responsible.
