Sukhbir Singh Badal Attacked in Nanded, Hospitalised After Sharp-Weapon Assault at Gurdwara

Punjab E News (PEN News): Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal was reportedly attacked with a sharp-edged weapon at Gurdwara Mata Sahib Kaur in Nanded. According to preliminary information, Badal sustained injuries to his hands and was subsequently admitted to Yashosai Hospital for treatment.

The incident reportedly took place after Sukhbir Singh Badal arrived in Nanded with his family. According to sources, a Nihang allegedly attacked him with a kirpan at the gurdwara premises. A police personnel deployed for Badal’s security was also reportedly injured during the incident.

Attacker Detained After Sukhbir Badal Attack

Following the incident, security personnel and people present at the gurdwara reportedly overpowered the alleged attacker. Police took the person into custody and are questioning him to establish the circumstances and motive behind the attack.

Police are also examining CCTV footage from the area as part of the investigation. The exact reason behind the alleged assault has not yet been established.

Sukhbir Badal Was Attacked in Amritsar in 2024

This is not the first reported attack on Sukhbir Singh Badal. On December 4, 2024, he was targeted outside Sri Darbar Sahib (Golden Temple) in Amritsar while performing religious punishment ordered by the Akal Takht Sahib.

During that incident, the attacker allegedly fired a 9mm pistol at Badal, but he escaped unharmed after the bullet missed him. At the time, Badal was serving the religious punishment while using a wheelchair due to a leg fracture.

The latest Nanded incident has once again raised questions over the security of the SAD president. Further details are awaited as police investigate the attack and verify the circumstances through CCTV footage.
