Punjab cabinet meeting on September 5; major decisions likely as government enters election mode

Chandigarh: The Punjab government has scheduled a cabinet meeting for September 5 at 1 pm at the chief minister’s residence in Chandigarh. Several key decisions are expected to be taken during the meeting as the state government steps up its focus on major policy announcements.

The meeting comes amid a series of decisions and announcements by the government, which is increasingly being viewed as operating in an “election mode”.

Among the major decisions highlighted are the following:

Regularisation of more than 65,000 outsourced and contractual employees.

Approval of a bill to bring outsourced employees under contractual employment.

Formation of a cabinet sub-committee to examine pending DA and pension dues.

Approval for setting up seven special courts to hear corruption-related cases.

Amendments to the Industrial and Trade Development Policy-2026.

Approval of a bill to regulate fees charged by private schools.

Decision to bring eligible outsourced employees who have completed five years of service onto contractual employment.

Approval to establish three digital open universities.

Amendments to the Punjab GST Act.

Creation of a new Panchayat Development Secretary cadre by merging the posts of panchayat secretary and gram sevak.

Extension of the services of pharmacists and sanitation workers at 582 veterinary hospitals until March 31, 2027.

Approval for recruitment of 19 draftsmen in the PWD.
