Mumbai: Actor Naseeruddin Shah has extended his support to singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh, who is facing criticism for working with Pakistani artist Hania Aamir in his upcoming film ‘Sardar Ji 3’. Diljit has been under fire on social media and from certain groups for collaborating with the Pakistani actress amid ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan.
In a post, Naseeruddin Shah said he stands with Diljit and clarified that the actor was not responsible for the casting of the film. “The jumla party was waiting for an opportunity to target him. They feel they have finally got this opportunity. He was not responsible for the casting of the film, so the director was responsible,” Shah wrote.
Music composer Mika Singh, meanwhile, called Diljit a “fake singer” and “irresponsible” for working with a Pakistani artist during strained relations between the two countries.
In a note titled ‘Country First’, Mika Singh urged artists to think twice before releasing content with Pakistani actors, citing the example of the film ‘Abir Gulaal’, starring Fawad Khan and Vaani Kapoor, which was banned in India after the Pahalgam terror attack earlier this year.
