Three doctors suspended, one dismissed over oxygen lapse deaths in Jalandhar hospital

Jalandhar: Three doctors have been suspended and one dismissed after the death of three critically ill patients at the Civil Hospital in Jalandhar due to a fault in oxygen supply.

Punjab Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh said the patients died due to negligence on the part of the hospital superintendent, the senior medical officer, and the doctor on duty.

“I regret that we could not save the lives of critically ill patients,” he said, adding that despite the availability of four oxygen sources, the patients lost their lives because of poor arrangements.

Dr. Balbir Singh said a technical committee was formed to investigate the incident and has submitted its report.

Based on the findings, Medical Superintendent Dr. Raj Kumar, SMO Dr. Surjit Singh, and anaesthesia specialist Dr. Sunakshi have been suspended. House surgeon Dr. Shivinder Singh has been dismissed from service.
