New Delhi: A special court in Bengaluru on Saturday sentenced Prajwal Revanna, former JD(S) MP and grandson of former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda, to life imprisonment for raping a domestic worker. The court also imposed a fine of ₹10 lakh and directed that ₹7 lakh be paid to the victim as compensation.
Revanna was convicted on Friday. During the sentencing, he pleaded for leniency, claiming he had done nothing wrong.
The case was filed in April last year by a 47-year-old woman who worked at Revanna’s family farmhouse. In her complaint, she accused him of repeatedly raping her since 2021 and threatening to leak explicit videos if she disclosed the abuse.
The court completed hearings in the case on July 18. Revanna was charged under multiple sections, including rape, voyeurism, criminal intimidation, and leaking obscene content. This is the first conviction among four rape cases registered against him.
