New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday described the problem of stray dogs in Delhi as “extremely alarming” and directed the Delhi government and municipal corporations to start picking up stray dogs from all areas without delay and house them in dog shelters.
A bench headed by Chief Justice S.S. Mahadevan, along with Justices J.B. Pardiwala and R.A., issued several directions to address the rising incidents of dog bites affecting the public.
The court warned that strict action will be taken against any individual or organisation obstructing the authorities in their efforts to capture stray dogs.
The bench ordered the setting up of shelters to accommodate 5,000 stray dogs and directed that adequate staff be deployed for sterilisation and vaccination of the animals to control the issue effectively.
