Patiala: A case has been registered against Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA from Sanaur, Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra, on charges of rape. According to police sources, Pathanmajra was arrested from Dabri village in Karnal but managed to escape from custody during a scuffle with his supporters.
Punjab and Haryana Police have launched a joint search to trace the MLA. Officials said a team of Patiala police, accompanied by three officers of Karnal police including an SHO, had reached the village to arrest Pathanmajra. However, he fled the spot in a white SUV with the help of villagers and supporters.
Police sources claimed that shots were allegedly fired while the MLA was escaping. A policeman was injured after Pathanmajra’s SUV collided with him. Authorities added that a separate case will be registered for assaulting and injuring a police officer on duty.
“Despite the presence of several teams, the MLA fled with the help of locals. We are now coordinating with Haryana Police to trace him,” an official said.
