CHANDIGARH: Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria on Wednesday said the Centre would work with the state government to help people affected by floods, assuring that more aid would be provided in the coming days.
Kataria returned to Chandigarh after conducting an aerial survey of flood-hit areas in Pathankot. He said that although water levels had started receding, the floods had caused extensive damage to houses and crops.
His remarks come at a time when farmers, their unions and most political parties — except the BJP — have expressed dissatisfaction with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s announcement of a Rs 1,600 crore relief package for Punjab. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government has estimated losses of Rs 13,800 crore and sought Rs 20,000 crore in assistance from the Centre.
Meanwhile, the Governor also enquired about the health of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, who was admitted to a hospital in Mohali earlier in the day.
