Bihar assembly elections to be held in two phases, counting on November 14

New Delhi: The Election Commission on Monday announced the schedule for the Bihar Assembly elections. Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar said that the polls will be conducted in two phases — the first on November 6 and the second on November 11. The counting of votes will take place on November 14.

He said that all postal ballots must be counted before the final two rounds of vote counting begin. Addressing a press conference, the Chief Election Commissioner said that over 74 million people, including 1.4 million new voters, are eligible to cast their votes in the upcoming Bihar elections.

Kumar assured that the elections will be conducted in a transparent and peaceful manner. He said Bihar has a total of 7.42 crore voters, including 3.92 crore men and 3.5 crore women. About 14 lakh individuals will vote for the first time, while 4 lakh are senior citizens.

The Commission also revealed that at least 14,000 voters in the state are over 100 years old. A total of 90,712 polling stations will be set up across Bihar.

Kumar said strict instructions have been issued to the administration to prevent any kind of violence and ensure that there are no threats to voters or candidates during the election process.
