CHANDIGARH: Union Minister of State Ramdas Athawale met Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and IAS officer Amneet P. Kumar, wife of late IPS officer Y Puran Kumar, in Chandigarh on Monday. During the meeting, Athawale tried to persuade the family to allow the postmortem of the IPS officer, but Amneet P. Kumar firmly said it would only be possible after the removal of Haryana DGP Shatrujit Kapoor and the arrest of all accused named in the case.
Sources said that when Athawale discussed the demand for arresting the officers with Chief Minister Saini, the CM initially stressed the need to conduct the postmortem first. Later, the Union Minister told reporters that he had come to ensure justice for the family in the IPS suicide case, calling it his responsibility.
On October 7, IPS officer Y Puran Kumar allegedly died by suicide after shooting himself in the basement of his house.
A suicide note recovered from the spot reportedly mentioned the names of several IAS and IPS officers, including the Haryana DGP.
