JAISALMER: At least 20 people were killed and 16 others injured after a private bus travelling from Jaisalmer to Jodhpur caught fire near Thaiyat village on Monday afternoon.
According to Jaisalmer Additional SP Kailash Dhan, rescue operations are underway and the injured have been rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Reports said that the bus, carrying 57 passengers, suddenly caught fire and half of it was gutted in the blaze.
Speaking to a media channel, MLA Pratappuri confirmed the death toll and said that several passengers were trapped inside as the doors of the bus got locked after the fire broke out.
Emergency teams and local authorities are at the site, and efforts are on to identify the victims and ascertain the cause of the fire.
