Chandigarh: The Haryana Police has registered a case against former Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Mohammad Mustafa, his wife and former minister Razia Sultana, and their daughter in connection with the death of their son, Aqeel Akhtar. The case includes charges of murder and criminal conspiracy.
Akhtar, 35, was found dead under “suspicious circumstances” at his residence in Sector 4 MDC, Panchkula, on October 16. According to Panchkula DCP Srishti Gupta, the family informed the police following the incident and their statements were recorded. Initially, no foul play was suspected, and the body was handed over to the family after postmortem for last rites.
However, police said that later some social media posts and videos allegedly made by Akhtar before his death surfaced, in which he spoke of personal disputes and expressed apprehensions about threats to his life.
The FIR was registered on the complaint of a man named Shamshuddin, police said on Tuesday. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by an ACP-rank officer has been formed to carry out an in-depth and scientific probe into all aspects of the case.
