Jalandhar: A woman doctor was found dead at her residence in Jalandhar on Wednesday, with her body discovered hanging inside a room. The incident has triggered allegations from her family, who have accused her husband of harassment and demanded a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.
The deceased, identified as Dr Meenakshi, was married to ophthalmologist Dr Piyush in October 2018. Her parents alleged that she had been facing difficulties in her marital life for several years and claimed she was living separately from her husband since July 2025.
According to family members, Dr Meenakshi had recently learned about substantial loans allegedly linked to her name. They claimed she was under considerable stress after discovering financial liabilities and had been planning to purchase a separate house.
Her parents further alleged that there had been ongoing disputes between the couple and accused Dr Piyush of physical and mental harassment. They also claimed that their daughter had expressed concerns regarding his alleged relationship with another woman associated with the hospital where he worked.
The family stated that they had provided certain materials and information to investigators and urged authorities to conduct a detailed probe into the matter. They questioned whether the death was a case of suicide or whether other circumstances may have been involved.
Dr Meenakshi was employed at a government hospital in Kapurthala, according to her family.
Police have launched an investigation and are awaiting the postmortem report, which is expected to provide clarity regarding the cause of death. Officials said further action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation and available evidence.
The case has drawn attention locally, with family members demanding justice and a comprehensive inquiry into the allegations they have raised.
