AMRITSAR: A large jatha of Sikh pilgrims left the office of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) for a pilgrimage to Gurdwaras in Pakistan to celebrate the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji.
Akal Takht acting Jathedar Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj has also joined the devotees to pay obeisance at Gurdwara Sri Nankana Sahib, the birthplace of Guru Nanak Dev Ji.
This is the first Sikh jatha to be permitted to visit Pakistan after the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor. Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s birth anniversary will be observed on November 5.
This year, the central government has allowed only Indian nationals to be part of the pilgrimage, unlike previous years when Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) were also permitted to join the yatra.
