Former Punjab Police DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar sent to judicial custody in graft case

CHANDIGARH: Former Punjab Police DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar was on Thursday sent to judicial custody for five days by a special CBI court in Chandigarh after the completion of his five-day remand. The court also remanded co-accused Krishna Sharda to judicial custody for 14 days.

Bhullar was earlier produced before the court on November 1 after his arrest in a bribery case. The CBI had arrested Sharda on October 16 for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹5 lakh from a scrap dealer in the name of Bhullar. Following Sharda’s arrest, the agency took Bhullar into custody in connection with the same case.

During a raid at Bhullar’s residence in Chandigarh’s Sector 40, the CBI recovered ₹7.5 crore in cash, 2.5 kg of gold ornaments, 26 luxury watches including Rolex, more than 50 property documents allegedly in the names of family members and benami entities, several bank account details, and four firearms along with 100 cartridges.

The CBI has also registered a fresh case of disproportionate assets against Bhullar in connection with the recovery.
