Chandigarh: Voting is underway for the by-election to the Tarn Taran Assembly seat in Punjab. Polling began at 7 am and will continue till 6 pm. According to officials, voter turnout stood at 11 per cent till 9 am, 23.35 per cent till 11 am, 36.06 per cent till 1 pm, and 47.48 per cent till 3 pm.
The seat fell vacant following the death of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Kashmir Singh Sohal, who had won the 2022 Assembly elections.
Meanwhile, tensions were reported during polling hours after the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) alleged that a Station House Officer (SHO) misbehaved with one of its members.
The party claimed the officer acted on government orders and accused the administration of using official machinery to capture booths. A video related to the incident was shared on social media.
In another development, a suspicious car was found parked near a BJP counter outside a polling booth. Police reached the spot and removed the vehicle.
