BJP rules out Akali alliance, asks cadre to gear up for all 117 Punjab seats

New Delhi: BJP national president Nitin Nabin on Saturday dismissed speculation about a possible alliance with the Shiromani Akali Dal and directed the party’s core committee to prepare for elections in all 117 Assembly constituencies of Punjab.

During his visit to Amritsar, Nabin held a meeting with the Punjab BJP core committee, where he outlined the party’s vision for the state and discussed preparations for the upcoming Assembly elections.

The meeting, which lasted around one-and-a-half hours, was attended by senior party leaders and was kept confidential by the BJP. Nabin instructed the core committee to identify constituency-specific public issues and launch agitations with the support of local residents to build political momentum in favour of the party before the next Assembly polls.

He said such campaigns would not only highlight local concerns but also help activate BJP workers at the grassroots level.

The BJP chief also stressed the need to strengthen the party’s organisational structure and booth-level management. He asked leaders to launch an outreach campaign to connect with prominent personalities from different fields and establish contacts with heads of religious organisations across the state.

Nabin further announced that central ministers and senior BJP leaders would visit Punjab every month to review the party’s activities and organisational progress.

The remarks are being seen as a strong indication that the BJP is preparing to contest the next Punjab Assembly elections independently, amid ongoing speculation over a possible tie-up with the Shiromani Akali Dal.
