Punjab government suspends striking bus employees over kilometre scheme row

Chandigarh: The Punjab government has taken strict action against employees participating in the ongoing strike against the cancellation of tenders under the kilometre scheme. All workers involved in the protest have been suspended with immediate effect.

According to officials, the department has issued emails to contractual employees, informing them that their participation in what it described as an “illegal sit-in” has caused financial loss to the state.

The letters noted that penalties were imposed on routes where buses could not operate due to the strike, and action was initiated against all concerned staff members.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann reached the Kurali bus stand at 3.30 am on Friday. During the early-morning visit, he interacted with passengers and reviewed the situation arising from the strike.
