131 flights cancelled at Delhi airport as dense fog disrupts operations

NEW DELHI: As many as 131 flights were cancelled at the Indira Gandhi International Airport on Tuesday due to low visibility caused by dense fog, an airport official said.

According to officials, 52 departing flights and 79 incoming flights were cancelled as flight operations were disrupted for several hours amid poor visibility conditions.

Delhi and other parts of north India witness dense fog towards the end of December, which significantly reduces visibility and impacts air traffic. Flights operated by Air India and other airlines are often delayed or cancelled during this period, leading to disruptions in schedules.

Meanwhile, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has already announced a ‘fog window’ for the winter season from December 10 to February 10 next year, warning airlines and passengers of possible delays and cancellations due to adverse weather conditions.
