Jalandhar News: Following the directions of Cabinet Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur, Department of Social Security, Women and Child Development, the district-level Child Begging Prevention Task Force conducted raids at various locations across Jalandhar and rescued 10 children found begging.
District Programme Officer Manjinder Singh said the action was taken under the department’s ‘Jeevanjyot Project’, aimed at eliminating child begging at the grassroots level. Teams led by him and District Child Protection Officer Ajay Bharti carried out raids at key locations in Jalandhar city, including the bus stand and major intersections, while Child Development Project Officers led similar checks in different blocks of the district.
During the drive, 10 children—six girls and four boys aged between 6 and 14 years—were rescued under the Beggary Act. All rescued children were medically examined at the Civil Hospital and later produced before the Child Welfare Committee, Jalandhar.
District Programme Officer said that in line with the Punjab Government’s directions, such rescue operations will continue regularly to make Jalandhar a child-begging-free district.
