Punjab jails minister visits Nabha jail, says Bikram Majithia safe in high-security zone

Chandigarh: Punjab jails minister Laljit Singh Bhullar on Saturday visited Nabha jail, where he met inmates and reviewed security arrangements.

Responding to repeated concerns raised by the Shiromani Akali Dal over the safety of senior leader Bikram Singh Majithia, Bhullar said there was no threat to him inside the jail. He stated that Majithia has been lodged in a high-security zone, where the jail superintendent maintains constant supervision.

The minister said Majithia’s family should remain assured, as his security is the responsibility of the jail department and all necessary arrangements are in place.

During the visit, Bhullar also targeted the Shiromani Akali Dal and the Congress, holding their past governments responsible for the rise in crime in Punjab. He alleged that links between leaders of these parties and gangsters had weakened the law-and-order situation in the state, and claimed that the same elements were still attempting to disturb peace.

Bhullar added that the Punjab chief minister has freed the police from political pressure and given them a free hand to act firmly against gangsters and criminal networks.
