New Delhi: India suffered a setback ahead of the T20 World Cup 2026 as fast bowler Harshit Rana was ruled out of the tournament due to a knee injury. Rana sustained the injury during a warm-up match against South Africa in Navi Mumbai on February 4.
Following medical consultation and scans, the BCCI’s medical team declared Rana unfit for the remainder of the tournament. The selectors have named Mohammed Siraj as his replacement in the squad. Siraj’s inclusion marks his return to the Indian T20 side after 556 days; he last played a T20 international on July 30, 2024, against Sri Lanka.
The T20 World Cup 2026, being jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka, begins on February 7. Defending champions India will open their campaign on Saturday against the USA at Wankhede Stadium.
