Amritsar: The executive committee of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has given Sri Harmandar Sahib head granthi Giani Raghbir Singh 72 hours to clarify the allegations levelled by him.
The development was confirmed by SGPC president Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami after a meeting of the committee. Addressing the media, Dhami said the allegations made by Giani Raghbir Singh were discussed in detail and treated with seriousness.
He said the committee has decided to seek a written explanation from the head granthi. “If he fails to provide evidence or clarify his allegations within 72 hours, action will be taken against him as per the rules,” Dhami said.
The SGPC also responded to allegations made by former Akal Takht jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh, who is currently associated with Shiromani Akali Dal (Sudhar Lehar). Dhami said Giani Harpreet Singh has been asked to either apologise for his remarks or be prepared to face a defamation case.
He termed the allegations as baseless and asserted that all actions regarding the sale of land were carried out in accordance with established norms. “There has been no irregularity in the matter,” he said.
Giani Harpreet Singh had alleged that the SGPC sold land belonging to Gurdwara Bhatta Sahib at throwaway prices. He also accused the committee of irregularities in transferring land to GMADA and not purchasing alternative land despite receiving a substantial amount in return.
The SGPC has rejected the charges and maintained that due process was followed in all transactions.
