Jerusalem: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the final day of his Israel visit announced a series of major agreements aimed at strengthening bilateral ties, including the rollout of India’s UPI payment system in Israel and progress toward a Free Trade Agreement (FTA).
Following bilateral talks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the two leaders addressed a joint press conference, highlighting deepening cooperation across sectors.
UPI to function in Israel
It was announced that India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI) will now operate in Israel, enabling Indian travellers to make seamless digital payments during their stay.
Modi also said that India would soon move forward on signing a Free Trade Agreement with Israel, describing the growing partnership as one that has reached “new heights”.
Calling the visit an honour, the Prime Minister said the relationship between the two nations is entering a new phase of strategic and economic collaboration.
Tribute at Holocaust memorial
On the second day of his visit, Modi visited Yad Vashem, the Holocaust memorial in Jerusalem, and paid tribute to six million Jews killed during the Nazi regime under Adolf Hitler.
He later met Israeli President Isaac Herzog, who praised India’s rapidly growing economy. Modi extended an invitation to President Herzog to visit India.
The visit is being seen as a significant step in expanding India-Israel cooperation in trade, technology, defence and digital innovation.
