Covo: A shocking incident has emerged from Covo in Italy’s Bergamo province, where two Indian nationals were shot dead late Friday night in what police suspect to be a pre-planned attack.
According to reports, the incident took place outside Gurdwara Mata Sahib Kaur Ji in the town’s industrial area, as the victims were leaving a warehouse being used for Vaisakhi celebrations.
The deceased have been identified as 48-year-old Raghuvinder Singh, a resident of Covo, and 48-year-old Gurmeet Singh from Agnadello.
As per Italian newspaper La Sicilia, the attacker approached the victims, opened fire, and fled the scene in a car. Investigators recovered around 10 bullet shells from the spot.
Initial findings suggest the incident was not the result of a spontaneous altercation. Police are treating it as a targeted killing and have launched a detailed probe.
A witness reportedly told local media that the assailant was believed to be of Indian origin and was known to frequently visit the gurdwara.
The incident has sparked concern within the local Indian and Sikh community, especially as a Vaisakhi event was scheduled nearby the following day with support from local organisations.
