New Delhi: Punjab BJP president Kewal Singh Dhillon on Saturday met Union Home Minister Amit Shah at his residence in New Delhi and discussed a range of issues concerning law and order in Punjab.

Following the meeting, Dhillon said the Union Home Minister had expressed deep concern over the prevailing situation in the border state and reviewed challenges related to security and public safety.

Addressing reporters after the meeting, Dhillon alleged that the Punjab government had failed to meet public expectations and claimed that issues such as drug trafficking and organised crime continued to pose serious threats.

“Punjab is a strategically important border state. Drug smuggling is harming the youth, gangster activity remains a concern and the law-and-order situation requires urgent attention,” Dhillon said.

The Punjab BJP chief said he briefed Shah on developments in the state and highlighted issues that, according to the party, require immediate intervention and stronger enforcement measures.

The meeting comes days after Dhillon assumed charge as the new president of the Punjab BJP and began consultations with senior party leaders in New Delhi regarding the party’s strategy and key issues ahead of future political campaigns in the state.

BJP leaders said discussions during the meeting also focused on matters related to public safety, border security and governance in Punjab.
