Ludhiana: A controversy erupted at the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation’s Zone B office after Shiromani Akali Dal councillor Kamal Arora allegedly slapped Superintending Engineer Praveen Singla inside his office during a dispute over development works.

According to the councillor, he had visited the municipal office to discuss pending development projects in Ward No. 20. Arora alleged that the official did not respond appropriately during the meeting and claimed that several works related to his ward had been delayed for a long time.

The disagreement reportedly escalated into a heated argument, following which the councillor allegedly assaulted the engineer inside the office premises.

After the incident, Praveen Singla left the Zone B office. He did not comment on the matter despite attempts by media persons to contact him. However, a family member later alleged that the engineer had been physically assaulted by the councillor and said a detailed response would be given later.

Municipal officials have not yet issued an official statement regarding the altercation.

Additional Commissioner Neeraj Jain said he had not been fully briefed about the incident. He stated that details would become clear after speaking with the officials involved and reviewing the circumstances surrounding the episode.

The incident has triggered discussions within civic circles and is likely to draw attention to the functioning of the municipal administration and relations between elected representatives and officials.

Further action, if any, is expected after authorities examine the matter and gather statements from those involved.
