Chandigarh: A cashier was shot dead after unidentified gunmen opened fire at a medical store in Chandigarh’s Sector 11, near PGI, on Saturday afternoon.
According to preliminary information, two masked assailants entered Shri Kumar Medical Store posing as customers. CCTV footage of the incident shows the suspects concealing their hands before loading automatic weapons inside the shop.
The attackers then targeted the cashier sitting at the counter and opened fire. Investigators said around 13 shots were fired within seconds. Although both suspects were carrying firearms, only one of them allegedly pulled the trigger.
After carrying out the attack, the assailants fled the scene.
The deceased has been identified as Janki Dass (45), a resident of Rohru in Himachal Pradesh’s Shimla district.
Police teams rushed to the spot after receiving information about the shooting. The area was cordoned off and forensic experts were called in to collect evidence. Authorities are examining CCTV footage and investigating the motive behind the attack.
The incident has raised concerns over public safety in the city, with police launching a manhunt to trace the attackers.
