New Delhi: The Central government has announced that all restrictions on the purchase of petrol and diesel from retail fuel outlets will be withdrawn from July 1, 2026, allowing commercial consumers to buy fuel without any quantity limits.
The restrictions had been imposed in June as a precautionary measure following heightened tensions in the Middle East, which disrupted global crude oil supply chains and shipping routes. Concerns over possible disruptions through the Strait of Hormuz had prompted the government to introduce emergency supply measures to safeguard domestic fuel availability.
The temporary curbs were aimed at preventing hoarding and black marketing while ensuring uninterrupted fuel supplies for the general public, farmers and other essential sectors.
With the regional situation showing signs of improvement and fuel supplies stabilising, the government has decided to withdraw the emergency restrictions. The move is expected to provide significant relief to the logistics, transport and commercial sectors by restoring unrestricted access to petrol and diesel.
