Fazilka police outpost in turmoil after munshi’s heroin arrest; in-charge suspended, entire staff transferred

Chandigarh: Punjab Police has initiated major disciplinary action in Fazilka after a police munshi posted at Ghubaya police outpost was arrested by Sri Muktsar Sahib Police with 280 grams of heroin and an illegal pistol.

Following the arrest, senior police officers suspended Ghubaya outpost in-charge Gurnam Singh and munshi Joginder Singh. Sources said the entire staff of the outpost has also been transferred as part of the departmental action.

Fazilka SSP Gagan Ajit Singh said action had already been taken against the arrested munshi. He added that further details regarding departmental proceedings could be obtained from the concerned DSP.

Confirming the action, Jalalabad DSP Gursewak Singh said outpost in-charge Gurnam Singh had remained absent from duty for several days after the munshi’s arrest. A departmental report has been prepared and forwarded to senior authorities for further action.

Meanwhile, local residents have alleged that personnel posted at the Ghubaya police outpost had close links with drug smugglers. They claimed that if an impartial inquiry is conducted, it could expose the alleged nexus between police officials and narcotics traffickers.

Residents further alleged that whenever they informed police about the movement of drug smugglers, some personnel at the outpost allegedly tipped off the suspects in advance about impending police raids, allowing them to escape before law enforcement arrived.

The allegations have not been independently verified, and police have not officially commented on the claims made by local residents.
