Father, teenage daughter die after family of four consumes suspected poison in Patiala

Chandigarh: A tragic incident unfolded in Punjab’s Patiala after four members of the same family allegedly consumed a poisonous substance. Two of them, a father and his teenage daughter, died during treatment, while the mother and son remain in critical condition.

The deceased have been identified as Vikas Batish (45) and his 13-year-old daughter Khushi Batish. His wife, Tamanna Batish (43), and 11-year-old son Kanav are undergoing treatment at Rajindra Hospital.

According to police, the family was rushed to the hospital after their condition deteriorated. Vikas and Khushi later succumbed during treatment.

DSP City-I Sanjeev Singla said preliminary investigation suggests that the family was facing a domestic dispute related to financial dealings. The family lived in Officers Colony in Patiala.

Police received information about the incident from Rajindra Hospital on Wednesday night, following which officers reached the hospital and initiated an investigation.

The bodies of the deceased have been sent for post-mortem examination, while investigators are collecting evidence and recording statements of relatives and neighbours to ascertain the exact circumstances that led to the incident.

DSP Singla said further legal action will be taken if new facts emerge during the course of the investigation.
