Amritsar: In a major disciplinary action, Amritsar Border Range Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Harmanbir Singh Gill on Thursday suspended Rajasansi Police Station SHO Sub-Inspector Harjeet Singh with immediate effect for alleged negligence during duty.
The action followed a surprise inspection conducted by the DIG at police checkpoints in the Rajasansi area. According to police sources, when the senior officer reached one of the nakas, the SHO was found absent from his assigned duty.
During further inspection, Harjeet Singh was allegedly found asleep inside a room at the police station instead of supervising the checkpoint.
Taking serious note of the lapse, DIG Harmanbir Singh Gill ordered the SHO’s immediate suspension.
Meanwhile, a video of the surprise inspection has gone viral on social media. The footage purportedly shows the DIG confronting the SHO inside the police station after finding him lying asleep on a bed during duty hours.
The incident has triggered debate over discipline and accountability within the Punjab Police, with officials reiterating that negligence while on duty will invite strict action.
