Amritsar: The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has announced a massive protest march in Amritsar on July 10 against the ban on the film Satluj, which is based on the life of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra and the alleged atrocities committed against Sikhs during the militancy era in Punjab.
Announcing the programme, SGPC President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami said the march will culminate at the office of the Deputy Commissioner (DC), where a memorandum will be submitted to the government demanding the immediate restoration of the film.
Dhami said the protest aims to register the SGPC’s strong opposition to the removal of Satluj and urge the authorities to revoke the ban without delay.
He stated that the film portrays the struggle of Jaswant Singh Khalra, who exposed alleged human rights violations and sought justice for innocent Sikh youths who were allegedly killed in fake police encounters.
According to Dhami, the film highlights the alleged excesses committed against Sikh youths during that period and presents documented accounts of the events, making it an important historical narrative that should be allowed to reach the public.
