Chandigarh: A local leader of the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) was seriously injured after unidentified assailants opened fire on him in Amritsar on Thursday. The incident triggered panic in the area as the attackers fled the spot immediately after the firing.
According to police officials, the injured leader has been identified as Jaipal Singh Bau, who serves as the party’s in-charge for Ward No. 42.
Preliminary information suggests that the attack took place while Bau was present in the locality when the assailants targeted him and fired two rounds. Both bullets reportedly struck him, leaving him critically injured.
He was immediately rushed to a nearby private hospital, where he is undergoing treatment. Police teams have reached the spot and launched an investigation to identify and trace the attackers.
