Chandigarh: A local court on Monday granted bail to Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra in an illegal mining case registered at Julkan police station.
However, the MLA will continue to remain in jail as he is also facing charges in a separate sexual exploitation case. The FIR in that matter was registered at Civil Lines Police Station on the complaint of a woman from Zirakpur under charges including rape, cheating and criminal intimidation.
In April 2026, Patiala Police had sought his arrest in an old illegal mining case, following which Pathanmajra surrendered before the court. At the time, he was already lodged in Bathinda jail in connection with the sexual exploitation case and was produced before the court, where he formally surrendered in the mining case registered at Julkan police station.
Police subsequently arrested him in the mining case but did not seek his custodial remand.
Pathanmajra had reportedly been absconding after making remarks against senior AAP leaders last year. When a Patiala Police team attempted to arrest him on September 2, 2025, in connection with the sexual exploitation case, he allegedly escaped from a relative’s house in Karnal, Haryana.
Police later arrested him near Gwalior in March based on technical leads. Since then, he has remained in judicial custody while facing proceedings in two separate criminal cases.
The court has now granted him bail in the illegal mining case, though he will continue to remain behind bars due to the pending sexual exploitation case.
