Chandigarh: Chandigarh Police has suspended five personnel, including a sub-inspector and three women police officials, in connection with alleged negligence in the investigation of the Sector 11 Shri Kumar Medical Store cashier murder case.
According to officials, the action was taken after an internal inquiry found lapses in checking procedures at police checkpoints set up across the city following the shooting incident.
Investigators concluded that personnel deployed at the checkpoints failed to conduct thorough inspections of vehicles and suspicious individuals, allowing the suspected shooters to evade capture and escape the area.
The inquiry reportedly found shortcomings in the enforcement of security measures during the immediate response to the crime, prompting the department to initiate disciplinary action against the officers concerned.
Police authorities said the negligence was viewed seriously, leading to the immediate suspension of the five personnel while further departmental proceedings continue.
The murder of the medical store cashier had sparked concern across the city, with police continuing efforts to trace and arrest those responsible for the shooting.
