Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Thursday visited Nirmal Kutia at Sichewal village in Shahkot, where he paid tributes during the 38th death anniversary programme of Sant Avatar Singh Ji along with Rajya Sabha MP Balbir Singh Seechewal.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister highlighted the progress made by the Punjab government in recharging groundwater through canal-based irrigation and surface water projects. He said nearly 21 lakh cubic metres of water had been recharged across the state, leading to improvement in groundwater levels in several regions.
Mann also praised environmentalist Baba Balbir Singh Seechewal for his sustained efforts in transforming barren and degraded land into a green ecosystem through environmental conservation initiatives.
The Chief Minister has previously attended the annual memorial programme on two occasions earlier as well.
